Australia offers several streams under the visitor visa (subclass 600), each tailored to the specific purpose of the visit.
A Visitor Visa (subclass 600) allows you to travel to Australia on a temporary basis. Tourist stream (apply outside Australia)
This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise or to visit family and friends. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when a decision is made on your application.
General criteria for the applicant
- Be a genuine visitor with the intention to stay temporarily in Australia.
- You must obey any condition and stay period attached to your visa.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- You must have, or have access to, enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia.
- Have no debt to the Australian Government.
- Not had a visa cancelled or refused. In some circumstances you may still apply for a visa if you have had a visa cancelled or an application refused.
- You can’t include family members on your application. Each family member, including those listed on your passport, must submit a separate application.

- Stay for the period or dates specified on the visa grant letter.

Sponsored family stream
This visa stream lets people who are sponsored, usually by a family member, come to Australia to visit their family members. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when a decision is made on your application.
General criteria for the applicant
- Be a genuine visitor with the intention to stay temporarily in Australia.
- You must obey any condition and stay period attached to your visa.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- You must have, or have access to, enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia.
- Have no debt to the Australian Government.
- Not had a visa cancelled or refused. In some circumstances you may still apply for a visa if you have had a visa cancelled or an application refused.
- You can’t include family members on your application. Each family member, including those listed on your passport, must submit a separate application.
- You cannot apply for a new visa in Australia because your visa will have condition 8503, ‘No Further Stay’. This can be waived in very limited circumstances – please contact us to discuss.

Am I eligible for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (subclass 601)?
- You must hold a valid passport from one of these countries or jurisdictions to be eligible for an ETA. You cannot apply for an ETA with a non-citizen passport, certificate of identity or other travel document, such as a Titre de Voyage.
Am I eligible for an eVisitor?
- You must hold a valid passport from one of these countries or jurisdictions to be eligible for an eVisitor.
- You cannot apply with:
- a non-citizen passport, certificate of identity or other travel document including a Titre de Voyage, or
- a British National Overseas, British Dependent Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person or British Subject passport.
What's the cost of a Visitor Visa (subclass 600)?
- This visa costs from $200 (AUD) for each applicant.
- You might also have to pay other costs for:
- health checks
- police certificates
- biometrics
- Migration Agent professional fees (if applicable)
